Kurator*innenführung: Brigitte Meier-Denninghoff

In the organizer's words:

With Johanna Haug, scientific volunteer at the Fine Arts Collection

Brigitte Meier-Denninghoff (1923 - 2011) was one of the few German sculptors and draughtswomen to make an international career in the 1950s and 70s. She was the only female sculptor and co-founder of the ZEN 49 group, and milestones in her success included invitations to the documenta in Kassel in 1959 and 1964 and the Venice Biennale in 1962. She received important art prizes and was represented in relevant publications on sculpture after 1945. Nevertheless, today she is often only perceived as part of the successful Berlin duo Matschinsky-Denninghoff. The exhibition is the first comprehensive evaluation of her estate. It comprises a wealth of unknown material, including sculptures, drawings and documents relating to Brigitte Meier-Denninghoff. They suggest a new perspective on the artist's early work.
