With Anne Bitterwolf, curatorial advisor to the director and curator of the exhibition
In the exhibition "Hero", Monira Al Qadiri (*1983 in Senegal) continues her long-standing exploration of the socio-cultural and ecological effects of the oil industry. For the Berlinische Galerie, Al Qadiri has developed an installation consisting of a large-format wall painting, objects and a video work. In these works, oil is far more than a "resource". It is also symbolic of the violence, memories and personal stories associated with its extraction.
