La Bohème

In the organizer's words:

"How ice-cold is this little hand", which the poet Rodolfo touches there in the darkness of his artist flat-sharing community! The ice-cold hand belongs to the embroiderer Mimì - with whom he now plunges into the Christmas hustle and bustle of Paris. But just a few months later she finds living with Rodolfo torture. But it is not jealousy that explains Rodolfo's behavior: he knows that Mimì will not survive the year.

Henri Murger's extremely successful novel "Les scènes de la vie de bohème" served as a model for "La Bohème", which had captivated Puccini from the first time he read it. His desire to set the material to music was so strong that it even broke off his friendship with Ruggero Leoncavallo, who was also working on an opera version. Today the opera, which premiered in 1896, is considered one of the most popular stage works of all time - thanks to its exuberant melodic richness and ingenious character studies.
