The old dream: in the end, the world means well with the good, and the mean, the vile and the greedy do not win the day. The heart triumphs, not the fist. This dream is never over. It is a seed of many religions as well as the stories we tell each other. Is there anything more comforting than the aphorism "All will be well in the end. And if not, it's not the end"? Even Angelina, tormented by her nasty half-sisters and her stepfather, who is addicted to his reputation, holds on to this dream. She is constantly reminded of the fairy tale of the king who chose not the richest and most beautiful, but the kindest suitor. That she must be this bride is revealed by the dignified, elegant music that Gioachino Rossini has given only to her.
In the opera, the improbable happens that we all want to believe in: An entire court appears at Angelina's house and announces that the prince will soon arrive and invite her to the ball. A mysterious philosopher presents her with the ball gown and the carriage is ready. The story unfolds as in the well-known fairy tale, only without the magic and much more amusing - in other words, very differently. Because the mean, the mean-spirited and the greedy are also very, very stupid here. Director Philipp Grigorian dreams with us and Angelina the dream of the victory of good - not without theatrical magic!
