Sometimes a single thoughtless moment turns our whole life upside down and there is no turning back. One thoughtless moment, one shot and the power of fate begins to inexorably make its way. Giuseppe Verdi's "La forza del destino" tells of precisely this moment when everything turns upside down for a young woman.
She, the young Leonora di Vargas, is at the center of the action. She loves Alvaro, but he is a thorn in her father's side. The two lovers therefore decide to flee. During their escape attempt, an accidental gunshot kills Leonora's father, setting off an unstoppable chain of guilt, revenge and violence. Separated by the fateful event, Leonora and Alvaro wander through a world marked by war and chaos, while Leonora's brother Don Carlo relentlessly seeks revenge. In the end, hatred and misunderstandings lead to a deadly catastrophe in which the power of fate is cruelly fulfilled.
"La forza del destino" is a true Verdi opera thriller, with everything a good Hollywood thriller needs: Love, death and betrayal. Verdi's music gives the characters an emotional power that gets under your skin: an overwhelming musical theater experience about guilt and responsibility, chance and necessity and the inevitability of fate.
