Labess

[DE] On the way into exile, the group Labess finds its musical identity. Diverse, free, lively. Nourished by the Algerian roots and the long journey of the artist Nedjim Bouizzoul.
Labess opens up a unique musical path beyond borders. The roots come to the surface, in exile. The voice rises in several languages, Algerian dialect Arabic, Spanish, French. Deep and committed.
Nedjim Bouizzoul grew up surrounded by the chaâbi music of his musical "big brothers". Carried by the freedom with which music travels and by the Arabic language when it frees itself from literary codes. He is thirsty for something else. Nedjim is looking for his voice, his way. Deep inside him, a call resounds, that of his guitar and of North America. He emigrated to Quebec with his family, his mother and his sisters at the age of 18. Nedjim Bouizzoul defines himself as a street musician. As a self-taught musician, he discovered concert cafés and whoever says travel, says meeting. Then came his first musical collaborations. Encouraged by playing with others, he understands that intimately lived exile is conjugated in the plural. This is the birth of Labess, the name of the group and the first album, in French: Tout va bien (2007). Music that is open to the four winds of the world: African sounds, rumba, flamenco ...

Finally, the question: Who am I? Nedjim answers: "A little bit of every country I visit, a little bit of every musician I meet." A plural and intimate music. Inhabited. Free.
