The "Long Night of Democracy" is being celebrated in Schleswig-Holstein for the first time.
The "Long Night of Democracy" enables encounters and exchanges on the importance of our democracy. We want to philosophize, discuss and argue about democracy in a variety of formats. With music, art and culture at various locations in Kiel.
5 pm - 8 pm:
"We are putting pressure on democracy"
If you want to send a visible signal that you are committed to democracy and human rights, then print a suitable motif on a T-shirt, bag or any other piece of fabric.
Walking exhibition/Pictures for democracy
Using the means of documentary photography and staging, the participants in the photography project "Never Again is Now - Images for Democracy" explore ways in which we, as alert contemporaries, can use the camera to provide food for thought and encourage peaceful coexistence.
Demokratomat
The "Demokratomat" turns wishes into pictures, gives democracy a face and comments on the world through comic glasses. Anyone who thinks up a topic and writes it on a card can expect an original drawing in a few minutes.
Democracy in motion: making animated cartoons
What are you allowed to do thanks to our democratic society? Using collage material, you cut and move your freedoms into animated film format. We want to create an animated film that grows together with your ideas and experiences. Katharina Kierzek and Kai Niebuhr will support the young and old filmmakers on set.
6 pm - 6.40 pm:
Scenic reading: Einstein sets sail (DEICHART)
Albert Einstein was not only the most famous scientist of the 20th century, he was also committed to pacifism and democracy throughout his life. In 1932, he succinctly stated in his "Confession of Faith": "I am committed to the ideal of democracy." In the same year, he left Germany for good; the foreboding of the looming Third Reich had wisely persuaded the Jewish scientist to do so.
Against the turbulent backdrop of the young Weimar Republic, which, as we know, began with the Kiel sailors' uprising in 1919, a friendship marked by political discussions developed between the progressive Einstein and the conservative Anschütz-Kämpfe, which in its fragility symbolizes the struggle for the young democracy in an almost exemplary way.
