It is always humorous in its very own way, has countless rituals and doesn't take itself too seriously: the Last Night of the London Proms concerts, which has become a second tradition at the Darmstadt Garden Concerts. Here, too, the usual suspects are performed, always including Edward Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance", for example. This summer, illustrious guests have also been invited from a world that is also full of humor, rituals and, at best, non-seriousness: the world of operetta, the era of Franz von Suppè, Emmerich Kálmán, Franz Lehár and, of course, Johann Strauss. For the first time, therefore, there will be a fusion of two spheres that simply stand for good humor and equally good music.
Arias and orchestral pieces from the golden operetta era were the hits and classics of a time with which the Hungarian conductor Gábor Hontvári is particularly familiar. He has already demonstrated this as director of the Dresden State Operetta and in operetta productions in Würzburg, which recently received a special award: the "Operetta Frog", which BR-KLASSIK awards to productions of outstanding quality in this field. "Grandiose" is how Gábor Hontvári "makes the ensemble swing" on the podium.
