The Lauscherlounge presents the production "Orson Welles and the War of the Worlds" together with the Mainz-based live radio play group Mienenspiel: a live radio play about perhaps the most famous radio mockumentary in history. From the perspective of director Orson Welles and writer Howard Koch, the legendary events of 1938 are brought to life on the ufaFabrik summer stage as a gripping live experience by narrators, foley artists and musicians.
Contents
Orson Welles makes radio history with the Mercury Theater on the Air in New York in 1938: Writer Howard Koch is to write him an adaptation of the sci-fi classic "War of the Worlds" in record time. The radio play sounds like real news - as if aliens were actually wiping out the entire human race. During the broadcast on Halloween evening, mass panic breaks out across the country. Police storm the radio station, but Orson forces his ensemble to play through to the bitter end. He is prepared to risk everything for fame.

About Mienenspiel
Founded in 2013 by students of theater studies, the group Mienenspiel was a complete success in 2016 with "Der Leichenräuber". In 2017, Mienenspiel then produced the self-written play "Orson Welles and the War of the Worlds".
The live radio play
If you close your eyes, you hear a radio play - but if you open them, you not only get an insight into the radio play production, but also experience a very special art form on stage. Together with a foley artist and an elaborate sound design, the speakers let the audience participate in the creation of a radio play.
