Lively and fresh, that's how the NRW State Youth Orchestra can be described. Or rather determined and disciplined? Both are possible when around 80 young musicians come together to work on great musical works and perform them to the highest quality.
In 2025, the motto of the program is: "Contemplation of nature instead of human sacrifice / Spring (nightmare) dream". The first part will be Robert Schumann's First Symphony in B flat major. He wrote his "Spring Symphony" in just a few weeks in 1841. Schumann composed the symphony, as he himself said, "in that springtime urge that carries people off into old age and overtakes them anew every year". In the second part of the program, the depiction of spring changes drastically with ballet music by Igor Stravinsky.
He composed "Le Sacre du Printemps" in 1913, at a time when the mechanization and urbanization of life were bringing about a profound change in perception. Space and time were experienced differently through new means of transportation and media such as film. The rhythm and sound of machines became the pacemakers of modernity. The ballet describes a spring sacrifice in pagan Russia.
