In the Kompakt Record Store of the legendary Cologne label for electronic music, the ADKDW invites you once a month to a joint listening session: alternating between music and conversation, a guest presents selected songs, song fragments or instrumentals and categorizes them from a personal, music-historical and/or political perspective.

"Political lyrics are difficult, political art perhaps even more so, but I'm really serious."

Jody Korbach is accused of making political art, some speak of an abysmal sense of humor. Many of her works have titles that are based on song lyrics. She sometimes shares a playlist or two for her exhibitions, with songs that have accompanied her during the preparations. She has turned her hobby into a profession, but fortunately never music. Here she can remain a fan. So she remains in constant competition with the music and what it can move. At the same time, she is suspicious of what art and music can have to do with politics and who eats whom first. She thinks Adorno is right in his criticism of pop music, but he should stop whining anyway.

You simply can't dance to Adorno.

Learning toListen uses radio broadcasts, podcasts and live events to explore forms of listening and non-listening - and the knowledge that can be gained from them. The central aim of Learning to Listen is to understand why certain sounds, songs and narratives are heard and others are not. Together we want to deal with internalized ways of thinking and learn to listen and unlearn.

And at the same time, she stays suspicious to the fact what music and art have to do with politics, and who will be eating whom first. Although Adorno might be right in his criticism of pop music, still he should stop whining around.

Learning to Listen Series
In radio broadcasts, podcasts and live events, Learning to Listen deals with forms of listening and non-listening - and the knowledge that can be drawn from them. The main aim of Learning to Listen is to initiate didactic processes intended to help us understand why certain sounds, songs, and narratives are heard and others are not. Together we will reflect on our internalized ways of thinking, of learning to listen and to un-learn.
