Kunsthalle Wien presents the most comprehensive overview of the Viennese contemporary art scene that the institution has organized in over a decade. For six months, Lebt und arbeitet in Wien: Contemporary Art from Vienna will present over 130 works of art by 56 artists living and working in Vienna, including painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, performance, sound, film and video, in all rooms at both locations in the Museumsquartier and on Karlsplatz. Accompanied by a program of lectures, performances and events, the exhibition highlights the city as a dynamic production site in which art is shaped by a critical examination of conservative forces and an awareness of one's own ability to act.
First organized by Kunsthalle Wien in 2000, the fifth edition of Lebt und arbeitet in Wien continues a long-standing tradition of celebrating Vienna's vibrant artistic discourse and diverse artistic community. Curated by Daniel Baumann, Michelle Cotton and Monika Georgieva, the exhibition focuses on new and contemporary works: 38 artists have created new works for the exhibition and many works are being shown in Vienna for the first time.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a new publication with commissioned texts on all artists and transcripts of conversations between curators, artists and critics who live and work in Vienna, in German and English.
To support the Kunsthalle Wien program, a series of artist editions will be produced and offered for sale to accompany the exhibition.
With a festival pass of the Klima Biennale Wien you receive a discount on the ticket price and pay € 11 instead of € 14.
