Mythical creatures have accompanied human consciousness since the beginnings of homo sapiens. They face us in our dreams and nightmares as strangers, but at the same time they are also a distorted mirror of ourselves. They arouse fear as well as affection, serve as a deterrent as well as a fantastic place of escape and have been used scientifically, literarily or artistically. But they also have functions in politics and the media, in science and in fashion.

The editors Constance Timm and Elmar Schenkel present the new volume in the series "Kleines Mythologisches Alphabet" mythical creatures from mythology, ethnology and popular culture: from Mesopotamia and Egypt to the digital creatures of our time.
