In the organizer's words:
What makes a dystopia believable? How do you develop a government system that’s internally consistent? What characteristics should you look for when choosing the story’s main character? What conditions must be in place for resistance to form, and why is it so important in this genre to draw parallels to our own world? Franzi Kopka addresses precisely these questions in this workshop. She explores the cornerstones of the genre using her own dystopian works as examples, analyzes the most well-known works, and invites all participants to get creative themselves under her guidance. In addition, the author looks forward to personal exchanges, is happy to answer any questions about the genre, her writing process, or publishing, and will share the challenges she herself has faced—and how she overcame them. The workshop is aimed at both writers who already have experience with dystopias and those who want to break into the genre. Franzi Kopka was born in 1990 in the Bergisches Land region. As the daughter of a bookseller, she grew up surrounded by good novels and began making up her own stories for her three younger siblings at an early age. Today she lives with her husband and her three cats and devotes herself entirely to writing. With her dystopian debut, *Gameshow*, she made it onto the *Spiegel* bestseller list right off the bat. Both *Gameshow* and *Honesty* were shortlisted for the Seraph Literary Prize.
