Lu is in crisis. He is 16 and has no idea what he wants to be or how he wants to be. In his home town
hardly any answers. So he wants to get away as quickly as possible. His escape plan: to train as a
sales assistant at the local supermarket.
Lu's best friend and neighbor Kneter also has a big project: he wants Lu to finally become self-confident.
That's why he wants to film Lu's failure. This is a growing annoyance for Lu.
Lu only shares brief, magical moments with Milena. But he soon realizes that Kneter, the
supermarket and the whole world out there won't let him have these moments if he doesn't
finally shows what he really wants.
A story about wanting and having to and about being different in the dreariness of a
German province.
Dominik Steiner (*1981) has been writing for a while now. But he is always learning anew. His
debut novel "Leben und Leben hassen" was published by Ubooks in 2010. This was followed by "Angstgegner" in 2013,
2018 "Hier ist auch bald woanders", both published by Unsichtbar Verlag. In between, he wrote for magazines
and anthologies. Dominik Steiner's professional work to date has included listing hotels on maps,
written product texts, catered for data, optimized the SEO performance of bed linen, wrote advertising for
car dealerships, reviewed TV films and put away yogurt pots. He lives in Berlin. There he likes to sit
in theaters, plays table tennis or escapes to the countryside in Brandenburg. His new novel "Aber
ich bin laut" was published in 2025 by Edition Subkultur.
