Lesung & Gespräch - Malou Berlin liest aus ihrem Roman "Was bleibt"

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the State Advice Center for Foster Care invites all interested parties to a special event:
Author Malou Berlin will be reading from her novel "Was bleibt" and will be available for a discussion afterwards.

"Was bleibt" is a touching, perspective-rich and tragicomic family story that is told over a period of 15 years. It focuses on a special child, an overwhelmed mother, a couple with an unfulfilled desire to have children and various social workers from the youth welfare office. Malou Berlin, who has been familiar with the issues of foster families and FASD (fetal alcohol spectrum disorder) since her youth, is a foster mother and has adopted one of her now adult foster children who is affected by FASD.

FASD refers to brain damage caused by maternal alcohol consumption during pregnancy. The reading and the subsequent discussion offer space for exchange and information on this important topic.

Target group and setting

Malou Berlin has published three novels and numerous short stories. She has been nominated for the Grimme Prize and the Prix Europa for her film work. Her commitment to foster families and her literary exploration of the topic make the event a special experience.
