"Attack on the AWI"
Inspector Schweers' third case
by Bremerhaven crime writer Michael Brömmel
Chief Inspector Schweers has barely finished his last case in Bremerhaven when he is swept up in a maelstrom of events that is unusual for the city on the Weser estuary. The woman's body, found in the server room of the Alfred Wegener Institute, was electrocuted: the moment was triggered by the flooding of the room with extinguishing water through an act of sabotage. The victim's background suggests a possible political motive. When two more explosions shake the city shortly afterwards and put the double lock to the fishing port and the Klimahaus out of action, the perspective of the investigating Deng officers shifts. There is growing evidence that a cool group of radical climate change deniers, Reichsbürger, esotericists and anti-vaccination activists are involved. What unites them is the common fight against a "system" that supposedly restricts their individual freedom. They get their "facts" from a dubious source on the internet, as they "know" that the public media are all spreading state-controlled propaganda.
