British composers
"Let Music Strike!" - under this motto, musicians from the orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin dedicate themselves to the music of British composers. The concert opens with the quintet for horn and strings by York Bowen, who is virtually unknown in this country. Himself a trained horn player, he composed numerous works explicitly for the horn, even in rather unusual formations such as here with string quartet. Rebecca Clarke's Two Movements for String Quartet, one of the most important British composers of the interwar period, is on the program, followed by another piece in a rare instrumentation - the Sextet for horn, clarinet and string quartet, for which the composer John Ireland was strongly inspired by his role model Johannes Brahms.
