LICHTSPIELPLATZ

An exhibition to play with: The LICHTSPIELPLATZ transforms the DFF into a cinema, experimentation and experience space for the very young target group. At installations, they - as well as their family members, educators and teachers - can let their imaginations run wild, be playfully creative and discover the magic of film in the process. The light playground has been designed for children aged three to eight, but slightly younger or older children are just as welcome.

It all starts in the exhibition cinema: short silent films from the early days of cinema, award-winning animated films and poetic documentaries are shown on the big screen. This awakens children's curiosity about movies. After this introduction, the experiments begin.

The children can play together at several stations run by the Dutch artists' collective Taartrovers and try out the basics of the medium of film: How do the images come into motion? How is an animated film created? How do music and sound change the perception of film images? What do light and shadow have to do with film? How does projection work? What is the function of set design, props and costumes? At the end of the visit, we return to the cinema to watch the action on the screen with a sharpened eye.
