Why does populism work so damn well online - and what can we do about it?

On this evening at Gleispark, we want to find out exactly that. Together, with you.

Prof. Dr. Marius Sältzer brings a scientific perspective to the table: He is Professor of Digital Social Science at the University of Oldenburg and researches political communication, social media and party politics. He explains how populist messages work, why they work so well on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram - and where the line to hate speech is drawn.

Nicole Piechotta brings a political perspective: she is chairwoman of the Oldenburg SPD and a local politician - and knows from her own experience what populist dynamics feel like in everyday political life.

Dr. Alaa Alhamwi is a member of the Bundestag for Bündnis 90/Die Grünen in the Oldenburg-Ammerland constituency and is active on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. He is familiar with populist dynamics from everyday political life - both online and offline.
