Bernd Begemann is a source of inspiration for artists as diverse as Tocotronic, Olli Schulz, Jochen Distelmeyer, Sven Regner and Thees Uhlmann. His songs could and should be hits or folk songs, but they are not. "My job is to create literature, not to maximize my clientele," says Begemann in an interview. His unique selling point: where other songwriters negotiate the private sphere, he is concerned with the place where the social and the private intertwine. "Rezession, Baby!" was the name of his solo debut, and songs such as "Hitler - menschlich gesehen" and "Deutsche Hymne ohne Refrain" laid the foundations for everything that came later. It's about our history. But it also gets to the heart of the matter and often to the heart. His concerts rarely last less than three hours, and he performs more than twenty songs plus encores night after night. "You still get your money's worth," says the press. Don't miss this evening, we say.
"Bernd Begemann doesn't have blues and soul, Bernd Begemann IS blues and soul."
Thees Uhlmann
Bernd Begemann, born on November 1, 1962, was the first punk in Bad Salzuflen. He is considered by many to be the inventor of the Hamburg School and wrote German-language songs when it was still or already uncool. He moved to Hamburg in the mid-1980s and released his first album, "Die Antwort". He recorded his later solo debut "Rezession, Baby!" in the kitchen of his apartment in Hamburg-Rothenburgsort. Since then, Begemann has released over 20 albums and more than 400 songs. The volume "Gib mir eine zwölfte Chance" with selected lyrics was published by Ventil in 2023; Bernd Begemann & Die Befreiung released their latest album "Milieu" in April 2024.
