Two friends discover Iran. One knows the country from childhood, the other only from the news: A colorful fairy tale from 1001 nights or a dark rogue state? Cosmopolitan high culture or introverted religious fundamentalism? Heart-warming hospitality or axis of evil? So what is Iran really like?
In search of answers, Mehran Khadem-Awal and Thorge Berger travel 4,000 kilometers through the country. Together they immerse themselves in the urban megacity of Tehran, stroll through the feudal, musical Isfahan, experience sunsets over the wind towers of Yazd, listen to the timeless wisdom of Hafez with the Shirazis and discover the impersonal side of the multi-ethnic state of Iran in remote mountain villages and islands.
