Experience the fascinating travel reportage by Thorge Berger, who fell in love with the magical India in 2010. The award-winning travel photographer tells us how it all began, the role played by American photography legend Steve McCurry, the holy city of Varanasi and a pilgrimage festival.
Thorge Berger has since made 20 trips through the subcontinent, visited holy places, experienced mysterious festivals and got to know much more than just one culture in India. He is always drawn to the "Kumbh Mela", the largest spiritual festival in the world, where he merges with millions of believers and sadhus on the banks of the holy rivers.
He is interested in the people, loves meeting them and getting to know their culture, rites and customs. But he is also fascinated by nature. He tracks down wild tigers in the jungles of central India's national parks and wanders through lush green tea plantations with low-hanging clouds. He marvels at breathtaking landscapes in Kashmir and Ladakh and goes in search of rare snow leopards in the Himalayas.
Immerse yourself in this unique and diverse country with its thousands of years of history, which is both a subcontinent of its own and the most populous country in the world, and let yourself be enchanted and "kidnapped" by its impressive images and stories. You will see India with different eyes!
The lecture was awarded the prize for best overall lecture (1st place) and for best photography at the renowned travel & adventure festival El Mundo 2025.
