FIONA GROND TRIO

"It was always important to me to not just be the singer who sings the theme and then the others do the rest of the music," says Fiona Grond. And so on the ACT debut "Poesias", the Swiss singer's voice acts as one of three instruments on an equal footing - closely intertwined with Moritz Stahl's tenor saxophone and Phillip Schiepek's guitar. The trio came together in Fiona Grond's adopted home of Munich and is another discovery on the local scene, which has been steadily gaining in profile and visibility for a few years now.

Fiona Grond's music draws its fascination from the quiet tones, the spaces between the notes, but also from the contrasts and frictions, the break with expectations and conventions. And so her appeal only really reveals itself when you get involved with her, listen carefully and, best of all, feel. It is said that people on the coast look into the distance, while people in the forest and mountains tend to look inwards. In this respect, Fiona Grond's Swiss homeland seems to shape her narrative perspective: "Poesias", Rhaeto-Romanic for "poems", is an inner search for thoughts and feelings, sometimes with and sometimes without words. "When something is on my mind and I find the right lines, I write them down. But if the music doesn't want lyrics, then it doesn't need them," says Fiona Grond. And: "I try, especially at the beginning of the composition process, to let myself drift and not to evaluate, but simply let the music happen."
