Threefold hymn of praise - The Dresden University Choir presents two festive works for soloists, choir and symphony orchestra with the "Magnificat" by Johann Sebastian Bach and the symphonic cantata "Lobgesang" by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. With Baroque splendor and "timpani and trumpets", Johann Sebastian Bach impressively set Mary's song of praise (Magnificat) to music. Mendelssohn's Canticle of Praise was commissioned by the city of Leipzig to mark the 400th anniversary of the invention of the printing press. This hymn of praise is certainly a work to the glory of God, but it is also a hymn of praise to man's gain in knowledge.
On June 29, these two masterful hymns of music history will be united in the (praise) song of the Dresden University Choir to celebrate its own 75th anniversary. A concert in the heart of Dresden that celebrates not only the music, but also the history of the university choir!
