London Recruits. Der geheime Kampf gegen die Apartheid
In the organizer's words:
German Premiere!
We’ll be screening the film Comrade Tambo’s LONDON RECRUITS on July 28 at the FMP1 courtyard cinema. The screening will be followed by a discussion with director Gordon Main.
*London Recruits* tells the little-known story of young internationalists from Great Britain who, in the 1960s and 1970s, heeded the call of the ANC in exile and joined the struggle against the South African apartheid regime. Led by ANC activists such as Oliver Tambo and Ronnie Kasrils, they traveled to South Africa as seemingly inconspicuous tourists to carry out secret missions and bring hope to a country whose resistance had been brutally suppressed.
Director Gordon Main combines eyewitness accounts, rare archival footage, and elaborately staged reenactments into a gripping documentary thriller about courage, solidarity, and international resistance to oppression. The multi-award-winning film offers a little-known perspective on the global anti-apartheid movement and the people who were willing to risk everything for freedom and justice.
