An immersive theater laboratory on the subject of apocalypse and artificial intelligence

With its new production Loop, the artist collective Spiegelberg is once again bringing an immersive theater installation "to the stage". The rooms of the Orangerie Theater will be transformed into an interactive theater laboratory for this purpose, because it's time. The world is about to end. Or is it? The participants, who become researchers in the theater laboratory, are given the task of creating their own theater performance with the help of various artificial intelligence (AI) models and thus finding solutions for what the world of tomorrow could look like today. The lab is also intended to be a space in which the use of AI can be explored and tested in order to shape the future. After all, AI can only function as a useful tool, free from biased ideologies and world views, if we make it our own.

Press comments:

"To this end, those present are divided into groups such as script, sound and background. In the script group, for example, everyone has to answer a question, such as what superpower they would like to have and who they would like to team up with.
This information is entered into the laptop and after a short time, the AI program throws a finished performance [...].
The audience has fun, especially when they recognize their individual contributions in the performance.
(Kölnische Rundschau, 06.04.2024, Daniela Abels)

"[...] The aim is to counter the deep-fake monster of a manipulative AI with something playful and positive in the deliberately naive free space of such an evening of theater.
Spiegelberg succeeds brilliantly with this lively AI adventure trip. A real breath of fresh air in a seemingly apocalyptic everyday crisis."
(Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, 10.04.2024, Norbert Raffelsiefen)

"If the audience is willing to play along, the production reveals brighter ways out of the end-time loop of civilization's downfall. During a walk through the garden area, a tour of the cellar and the collaborative work in the theater laboratory, not only solidarity is created in 80 minutes, but even a multi-act drama that is finally performed."
