For a quarter of a century, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival has been honoring outstanding young artists with the Leonard Bernstein Award - names such as Lang Lang, Lisa Batiashvili and Martin Grubinger stand for a success story that will open a new chapter in 2026. This year, the prize goes to French trumpeter Lucienne Renaudin Vary. She already caused a stir as a teenager: At the age of 17, she released her first album, which effortlessly combined classical music and jazz, and quickly became a sought-after soloist on international stages - virtuoso, curious and full of charisma. The SHMF celebrates this exceptional artist with a program that underlines her range: Haydn's radiant Trumpet Concerto, Gershwin's "An American in Paris" and Beethoven's rousing Seventh Symphony. An evening that makes the future of the trumpet audible - and the history of a prize that has been setting standards for 25 years.
