On March 13, sociologist Nikolaj Schultz will present his new book "Landkrank" at the Backfabrik, together with climate protection activist and publicist Luisa Neubauer. Philosopher and author Eva von Redecker will host and guide the evening,
Heatwave in Paris. At night, people lie sleepless in sweaty T-shirts under their zinc roofs. Wouldn't it be better to turn on the air conditioning? Or does that make everything worse? And what about the cheap T-shirt that was transported thousands of kilometers to Europe? The author panics and wants to escape the temperatures and his guilty conscience. He sets off for Porquerolles. However, the island is no longer untouched, but a crowded tourist destination. Water is scarce in summer. The iconic Plage d'Argent is now only called "bacteria beach" by the locals - as if in a process of reverse alchemy, beauty becomes dirt, silver becomes filth.Nikolaj Schultz's experiences and encounters raise existential questions: about the responsibility of each and every individual, about ethical and ecological orientation in the Anthropocene. His answers are not always comforting, but he finds insights and a tone that could make him the voice of a generation.
Nikolaj Schultz, born in 1990 in Aarhus, is a sociologist. He conducts research at the University of Copenhagen and was one of Bruno Latour's closest collaborators until his death. They published together in edition suhrkamp Zur Entstehung einer ökologischen Klasse. A memorandum (2022).
