More than 50 years after their acclaimed debut album, the legendary Southern rock band continues to thrill fans of all generations. Hardly any other group has shaped the rock genre and the spirit of the American South as much as Lynyrd Skynyrd. Today, the band sees itself as the guardian of its musical legacy, honoring the late founding members and bandmates whose songs continue to inspire millions of people to this day. Led by singer Johnny Van Zant and guitarist Rickey Medlocke, Lynyrd Skynyrd continues to tour worldwide, bringing classics like “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Simple Man,” and “Free Bird” to the stage.

Even after the death of the last founding member, Gary Rossington, in 2023, the current lineup continues to honor his wish to keep Lynyrd Skynyrd’s music alive and to keep performing it for the fans.

As Ronnie Van Zant’s widow, Judy Van Zant Jenness, says: “The Lynyrd Skynyrd family is united in this decision to let the Free Bird fly for as long as possible.”

The latest live album, “Celebrating 50 Years: Live At The Ryman,” underscores the band’s enduring significance and features guest appearances by renowned artists. For Johnny Van Zant, one thing is paramount: preserving the music for future generations. Thus, more than five decades after its founding, Lynyrd Skynyrd remains one of the most influential and successful rock bands in music history.
