Madhavi takes you into the magical world of Indian mythology. She has brought along a selection of her most beautiful exhibits from her Kalamkari collection, which she has collected over many years in India. Kalamkaris are hand-painted fabric pictures from South India (mainly from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh) using natural dyes.

After a brief introduction to the background of the Kalamkaris, the deities of the Hindu pantheon depicted come to life through Madhavi's impressive dance in the classical South Indian dance style Bharata Natyam.

Experience God Shiva, the god of cosmic dance, his sons Ganesha and Murugan and of course the great goddess in all her many facets.

Storytellers, who go from village to village with painted fabric picture scrolls, have been around in India since the 2nd century BC. Through storytelling, gestures and dance in a modern form, Madhavi takes up the old storytelling traditions of Indian bards.

Madhavi (Margit Kuffemann) is a theater scholar (M.A.) and a Bharata Natyam dancer trained in India as well as a passionate storyteller and story dancer. As a mediator between cultures, she is a cultural ambassador between East and West. For more than a decade, Madhavi has captivated audiences with her 'Danced Tour' during the Cologne India Week and also for the major special exhibition 'Rama and Sita' at the Rautenstrauch Joest Museum in 2012.
