MAHOUT

In the organizer's words:

Mahout hail from Pinerolo, a small town in north-western Italy with a strong reggae and punk vibe, which has produced Italy's most important reggae band, Africa Unite.

From the very beginning, the band's aim was to combine Jamaican reggae with various other influences, from Californian punk to garage rock and funk. The result is a fresh and personal sound that is difficult to categorize into a specific genre as it constantly fluctuates between black mellowness and white heaviness.

After the first local gigs, the band released their EP Streetwise Demo. The record is an unexpected success and allows Mahout to embark on their first tour. They play at major festivals all over Italy and support artists such as Lee Scratch Perry, Max Romeo, Alborosie, Luciano, Morgan Heritage, The Skints, The Bluebeaters, Busy Signal, Giuda and many more.

In November 2023, Mahout released their first full-length album "My heart is a stoner" (La Tempesta Dub/Believe Music Italia). It was produced by Marco Benz Gentile (Africa Unite and others), a long-time activist in the Italian and international music scene, and features internationally renowned artists such as Larry McDonald (Lee Scratch Perry, The Skatalites, etc.), Peter Truffa (New York Ska Jazz Ensemble and others).
