Malonda is a political artist who brings her passion for anti-racist and queer feminist issues to the stage. With Black Medusa: Seven Chants on Bodies and Battlefields, a new work, Malonda gives voice and presence to reinterpretations and imaginings of the mythical Gorgon.
This Medusa is trapped in a deadly labyrinth of her own design - her social media feed. From beyond the grave, she speaks to her audience and addresses all those who think they know her: her fans, her haters, her army of petrified admirers, the white man who decapitated her, the white woman who helped him.
Her head is a weapon, her body a threat, her gaze grasps everything but herself. She asks questions about a life that seems to consist only of pain. For someone like her, all doors are closed, but she is looking for the exit.
The performance is framed by the Bolivian artist Luna Duran. In a poetic video work, she draws together the motifs of the performance, such as sacred pain and the transformation of injuries, and tears them apart again.
MALONDA is a Berlin-based singer and "electric diva" who writes her own songs and shines on theater stages. She is passionate about anti-racist and queer-feminist issues. Malonda sings and speaks about gender roles, sexuality and diversity and has made a name for herself as a political artist. With her highly acclaimed debut album Mein Herz ist ein dunkler Kontinent, she toured Germany with Laing, Großstadtgeflüster and Moka Efti Orchestra and played at major German festivals such as c/o pop, Pop-Kultur Berlin and the Reeperbahnfestival. With the grace of Hildegard Knef and the power of Grace Jones, Malonda celebrates on stage so that you can't look away and simply have to listen.
