Captivating, ethereal and majestic, Mammal Hands has created a distinctive sonic experience from a variety of different influences. Based on their love of electronic, contemporary classical, world, folk and jazz music, Mammal Hands draw on influences such as Pharoah Sanders, Gétachèw Mekurya, Terry Riley, Steve Reich and Sirishkumar Manji.
Mammal Hands have forged their own path away from the musical mainstream. Their unique sound is the result of long improvised rehearsals. All three members contribute equally to the writing process, which favors the creation of a powerful group dynamic over individual solos. Their records are captivating and beautiful, their hypnotic live shows make them one of the most exciting bands in Europe.
Their fifth studio album "Gift from the Trees" offers a new perspective on the trio's music. The result is a concept album dedicated to nature and our relationship with it. Recorded in a remote studio in the midst of rugged nature, these impressions have clearly left their mark on the tracks.
"Gift from the Trees" is an intuitive masterpiece and not a brainchild from a hermetically sealed studio. (Georg Waßmuth / SWR Kultur)
