In the organizer's words:
Poetry slam has long since arrived on the big stages in Germany. But before successful stage poets become established names on the scene, there is always a first performance. This is exactly why the Mandra Slam in Bochum exists.
This is where new voices meet open ears, fresh texts meet tense expectations and stage fright meets an audience that is keen to discover the talents of tomorrow. Where there are usually ready-made programs and experienced artists, the stage at the Mandra Slam belongs to those who are taking their first steps in poetry slam.
Each edition is a grab bag of stories, thoughts and perspectives. Sometimes funny, sometimes touching, sometimes socially critical and sometimes everything at the same time. After all, it is the variety of texts and people that makes a newcomer slam so appealing. No one knows in advance which words will make the room laugh, which lines will resonate or which story will stay with you long after the evening is over.
The Mandra Slam offers up-and-coming poets the opportunity to gain stage experience, try themselves out and become part of the lively slam scene in the Ruhr region. For many, this is the start of a journey that will later take them to bigger stages. For the audience, it is an opportunity to experience precisely these first steps and perhaps get to know the artists of tomorrow today.
Where hands sweat, lyric sheets tremble and hearts beat a little faster, a special atmosphere is created: honest, unfiltered and full of surprises. This is exactly what makes the Mandra Slam an evening that is far more than just a competition - it is a place for courage, creativity and the joy of the spoken word.
