Manfred Lütz was born in 1954 in Bonn, where he also grew up. He studied medicine and Catholic theology and was chief physician at the Alexianer Hospital in Cologne, a specialist psychiatric clinic, for many years. In addition to his medical work, he is known as a bestselling author and combines specialist knowledge with humor in his books. His best-known works include "Irre! Wir behandeln die Falschen, eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der Psychiatrie" and "Gott - Eine kleine Geschichte des Größsten", which makes theological questions understandable. Lütz appears regularly as a speaker and is known for his trenchant analysis of social issues. He has been involved in an integrative youth group for disabled and non-disabled teenagers and young adults in Bonn since 1981, is a public presence in discussions on church and ethical issues and advocates an appreciative view of mental illness. In 2018, he was even appointed "Consultor to the Congregation for the Clergy" by Pope John Paul II and in the same year organized a congress in the Vatican on the topic of "Abuse of children and young people by Catholic priests and religious". He remains committed to the topic to this day and is a knowledgeable contributor to the social debate. Dr. Manfred Lütz is married, has two daughters and lives near Bonn.
