MARENERA
Traditional music from southern Italy in Berlin
The band Marenera was born in 2020 and consists of European musicians who have chosen this city as their home. The project was born from a shared passion for the tarantella and its original rituals, which are being rediscovered.
Marenera are: Barbara la Cecilia (vocals), Giovanni Abei (guitar and mandola), Valentina Bellanova (flute and bagpipes), Matthias Haffner (tambourine and tammorra), Ira Shiran (accordion), Penelope Gkika (violin), Mimis Sandalis (double bass), Cristina Mantione (dance).
The concert is a wonderful musical journey to the south of Italy, in the footsteps of tradition and ancient sounds, passionate and rousing. The repertoire ranges from the Apulian pizzica to the tammurriata from the Vesuvius area and the tarantella from Gargano to the Sicilian tarantella.
Accompanied by this wonderful orchestra, tarantelle, pizziche, tammurriate and so-called stornelli, old love and workers' songs from the oral tradition of various regions, are performed. The music is complemented by the performance of the dancer, who irresistibly captivates the audience with her various dance forms.
