Concerts with Maria Bertel are sonic experiences of high intensity. In the Danish trombonist's music, background noises play a central role. With her intuitive, sensual playing and extreme amplification, she brings the sounds of the slightest touches to the forefront. In this way, the instrument of this sought-after collaborator becomes a metallic, crackling, and breathing sound body. Besides her work as a soloist, Bertel plays in the notorious noise rock band Selvhenter and in an improv duo with guitarist Nina Garcia.
With her uncompromising sound design, bassist Farida Amadou has made an international name for herself. The unconventional way in which Amadou engages with her instrument, her precision, and her keen sense of the musical situation have established her international reputation. Noise, minimalism, and post-punk are cornerstones of her musical universe. Together with the accomplished jazz drummer Egon Wolfson, Farida Amadou delves into improvised textures built around West African percussion samples, melodic fragments, and vocals. The duo explores the echoes of a musical heritage with radical musical freedom.
