A touch of Norway

"I write my own South Sami lyrics and songs because there was no South Sami music that I could listen to when I was a child," says the young singer Marja Mortensson, who was born into a family of reindeer herders in Norway. The now 30-year-old experiments with traditional Joik singing like no other, breathing new life into it time and time again - literally together with jazz tuba player Daniel Herskedal in their current project "Båalmaldahkesne - Entwined", which is being brought from Norway to Hamburg for the "Arctic Voices" festival.
