MATCHING OUTFITS + SLOE PAUL

In the organizer's words:

Slow Club Freiburg presents:

MATCHING OUTFITS + SLOE PAUL

MATCHING OUTFITS
The quirky, wistful indie pop of Matching Outfits, a trio of Berliners by choice, is often compared to a "Super 8 movie from the attic of your parents' house".
Swedish frontwoman Linnea Mårtensson's lyrics depict life's great losses and small inconveniences in heartbreaking, sometimes comical detail, while clear keyboard chords and lovely three-part harmonies turn into dissonant freakouts and shout-along choruses.
In 2022, the group released their debut album 'Band Made Out Of Sand' on the Berlin cassette label Kitchen Leg. It was played by US cult radio station WFMU, among others, who then invited the "bunch of bangers" (in their words) to record a Syd Barrett cover for a charity compilation. Incidentally, the band only wears matching outfits in exceptional cases.

The story of Matching Outfits begins on a farm outside Mjöbäck in Sweden, where Linnea - saxophonist in a brass band, choir singer and self-taught pianist - discovered the music of The Moldy Peaches and Belle and Sebastian and began writing her own songs.
She moved to Berlin with her high school boyfriend and together they ventured into the city's DIY music scene.
At an open mic night in Kreuzberg, she met Rachel Glassberg, an American and former bandmate, who asked her to play saxophone for a song about the movie Sharknado.
In return, Rachel played drums for her song about a stinky finger in a karaoke bar.
A few years later they met Leah Corper, a bass player and mysterious woman from the UK.
When Linnea's band and relationship broke up, she teamed up with Rachel and Leah to try out some freshly written songs. New melodies and harmonies emerged, and Matching Outfits was born.

SLOE PAUL
the project of Berlin-based songwriter and producer Paul Abbrecht, is back with his third studio album "Searching/Finding" (2025, Treibender Teppich Records). Classic pop songs: leisurely, spacious, with expansive melodies and clear, elegant arrangements.
They tell of farewells and new beginnings, full of melancholy and hope at the same time.
The last glimmer of summer, translated into sound.
You might think of Brian Wilson's "Surf's Up", John Cale's European chanson ballads or the one-man Beatles pop of Emitt Rhodes - only to realize that it's really only Sloe Paul who sounds like that.
These songs are played live by a five-piece band that knows how to tread the fine line between precision and genuine emotion as if it were an evening stroll around the block.
