The history of today's Bremerhaven Historical Museum began on Monday, January 15, 1906 in the Prussian municipality of Geestemünde. The museum was based on the prehistoric and early historical finds of the "Men of the Morning Star" local history society, which is why it became known as the "Morning Star Museum".

Since then, the building has undergone many changes. The 120th anniversary provides an opportunity to look back at the wishes associated with the museum, its changes and its impact. In view of Bremerhaven's 200th anniversary in 2027, the birthday is also the prelude to public participation in the city's anniversary under the question: Who actually collects what and how and for what purpose?
