The best thing to do is to continue walking briskly, around to the right, past the old chestnut tree that stretches its branches into the little bit of sky. Just behind it is the entrance to the rear building.

Via a narrow staircase you come up to the second floor. In front of you is now the red entrance door. Behind it dwells the Egers with the woman. Come in!

At the back of the apartment, he is lying in bed and dreaming his funny news. He sits in the living room armchair and shakes his head about it. Come into the kitchen, he has just eaten a cheese sandwich, you can still smell the cheese. Now he's leaning out the kitchen window. You can look right over his shoulder.

You can hear the old woman coughing Schlitz beer from the front of the house. One floor below, the Bahulgen children and the child mother are bawling; it's about the fire bugs from the bub running around in the bed, they bawl so loudly that the synapses almost fall out of your ear.

Quickly the Egersdörfer closes the window again... and there he has discovered you. But you don't need to be afraid, he won't hurt you. He will even make you a cup of coffee. All you have to do is sit down at the kitchen table and listen to him, and he'll tell you all about the cough and the bugs, and what other news there is from the back house.

Egersdörfer is a good narrator and you are the perfect audience.
