A theater evening with songs by Johnny Cash and June Carter
On a February evening in 1968, Johnny Cash and his entourage play another of their sold-out shows, this time in a provincial town in Canada. The lively June Carter, scion of the legendary Carter Family, is also back. After playing the last chords of their joint hit "Jackson", Johnny asks in front of several thousand fans: "Will you marry me, June?" With spontaneity and great wit, she avoids an answer and instead turns the situation into a comedy act, as if it were a rehearsed number. But Johnny doesn't let up: after 31 marriage proposals, June finally answers him with "Yes!" that evening.
Actors Lucie Mackert and Roman Roth, together with guitarist Thomas Maos, immerse themselves in the world of Carter Cash. They shed light on the two sides of love in show business and show the many facets of the two main characters. They also bring important companions and family members to life and tell the story of the two from different perspectives. With the help of new arrangements of well-known country classics, this piece of music history is told musically and dramatically and past times are illuminated anew.
A very touching evening, musically successful, with an exciting relationship story that leaves its mark. - Ludwigsburger Kreiszeitung
