Mehr als Wir – FolkJazz

In the organizer's words:

When Matthias Ehrig (electric guitar, acoustic guitar) asked Andreas Uhlmann (trombone, flugelhorn, synthesizer) for a pen on 29.09.1997 in order to enrol for the jazz course at the Musikhochschule in Dresden, neither of them had any idea that they would later spend a lot of time together in the car travelling to concerts all over Germany.

While Andreas' home was in folk music, with which he toured Germany and Europe (ULMAN), Matthias learned to appreciate and love this music through Andreas. After briefly playing jazz together in a band project, they founded "Red Five" shortly afterwards to play music that fuses jazz with groovy world music. They were joined by Johannes Uhlmann on diatonic accordion and Christoph Schenker on electric bass.

After graduating, they both went their separate ways without losing sight of each other. In between, they visited each other musically (Interloop).

In 2017, the two decided to make music together again. This time as a duo - without any musical role models for this particular minimal line-up. They rehearsed, tinkered and struggled for a year. Then the time had come: "Mehr Als Wir" saw the light of day, or rather the spotlight of the stage.

In addition to the line-up, "Mehr Als Wir" derive their unique selling point from a stylistic mix of pop, jazz, EDM and acoustic world music. The musicians use loop techniques and clever arrangements to create the full band sound that gives the band its name.

They released their debut album "Midlife Drive" in 2019 and their second album "Dunkelkammer" in May 2022.
The current album has been further rejuvenated compared to its predecessor. Flugelhorn and synthesizers are given much more space on "Dunkelkammer". The guitar and trombone/flugelhorn remain lively, honest, edgy and humanly played. The band has become even more daring and experimental in their arrangements, instrumentation and audio production.

On February 25 at Horns Erben they will present their third album "Hurry up and Wait" which will be released on February 26, 2026.
