To wrap up our new little festival, “Literaturbezirk Nord,” we’ve invited two female poets who have made their way to northern Germany from far and wide. What’s it like to write poetry up there? Should it be mainly about wind and weather, water and dikes? Far from it, even if, at least in some poems by Anne Martinda—a writer, artist, and singer-songwriter born in Erfurt but long since living in Greifswald—the lyrical “I” occasionally wanders through the dunes. In her collection “sollbruchstellen” (parasitenpresse), she explores the world as a fragile yet hyper-complex place where we search for meaning but often find only consumption. No wonder her texts and songs oscillate between smiling irony, a matter-of-fact shrug, and intense rage. Donka Dimova has also moved to northern Germany. Born in Burgas, Bulgaria, she has lived in Bremen since her studies. She is a poet and language artist in German and Bulgarian. The prose poems in her first poetry collection written in German (KLAK Verlag) tell of the residents of the “apartment building without a view” (as the book is titled), about their expectations and failures, family dramas and the search for a future, about pride and a lack of words. The neighbors of Nadezda, whose name translates to “hope,” are interviewed and encouraged to speak.The two poets, in turn, are interviewed by moderator Marlene Jäger, who speaks with them about their texts and the act of writing itself.Apartment Building with Predetermined Fault LinesAfter filling out the form, you will receive a confirmation of your reservation via email.
