New hiking event at Wambel racecourse combines exercise, community and social commitment
On Saturday, September 19, 2026, a new outdoor event will celebrate its premiere in Dortmund that deliberately takes a different approach to traditional sporting events: At Meilenstolz Dortmund, the focus is not on the competition, but on the shared experience.
Under the motto "Walk together, arrive proudly", participants can expect a 20-kilometre hike through and around Dortmund. The start and finish point is the Dortmund-Wambel racecourse.
Unlike many running and sporting events, there is no timekeeping, no rankings and no competitive pressure at Meilenstolz. Instead, it's about achieving a goal together, overcoming personal limits and crossing the finish line with a real sense of achievement.
An event for everyone, not just competitive athletes
20 kilometers may seem challenging at first, but it is manageable for many people with a normal level of fitness. This is precisely the idea behind Meilenstolz: to create an event that appeals to both beginners and experienced hiking fans.
"Meilenstolz is not about being faster or better than others. It's about setting off together, motivating each other and reaching the finish line with pride," explain the initiators Nicoline and Norbert, who discovered their passion for hiking themselves and know from their own experience how motivating such a sense of achievement can be.
Urban hiking: Rediscover Dortmund
The event combines an experience of nature, exercise and exploring the city. Participants experience a part of Dortmund from a new perspective and discover familiar places and green oases along the way.
Meilenstolz is thus picking up on a growing trend: Hiking is increasingly becoming a popular leisure activity in urban areas too. Events that combine exercise, community and an emotional experience are particularly popular.
Doing good together: support for help and hope
Meilenstolz not only pursues sporting and social goals, but is also committed to a good cause. For every ticket sold, 1 euro is donated to the help and hope foundation.
The foundation supports disadvantaged children and young people in Dortmund and the region and creates prospects for young people. By taking part, all walkers make a direct contribution to this important social commitment.
Professionally organized with a special sense of community
Participants can expect a fully organized event with refreshments at the halfway point, a medal, finisher drink and a special atmosphere that focuses on the community experience.
Meilenstolz is aimed at people of all ages who enjoy exercise, want to make new contacts and prove to themselves that they can achieve more than they might think.
