Freedom of Expression Week will take place for the sixth time from May 3 to 10, 2026. Under the motto "What is true?", the nationwide campaign week will explore the tension between facts, opinions and truthfulness. Here at the Central Library, we are also dedicating an evening to the topic of freedom of expression.

What is freedom of opinion and: What is freedom of opinion not and where is this term misused?
What does freedom of opinion mean and what is it used for?
Is freedom of opinion in danger in Germany and if so, how and by whom?

Dr. Tobias Mast from the Hans Bredow Institute and Karina Hesse, a long-time legal advisor to publishing houses, will discuss this on May 4 from 7 - 8:30 pm. The event will be moderated by Stefan Endter, Managing Director of DJV Nord.

The discussion is being held in cooperation with the Hans Bredow Institute and the German Journalists' Association North.
