The Meisterwerke concert series in Berlin Cathedral presents cultural life in all its diversity - from great classical music to literary-musical evenings and club culture. In the midst of sacred architecture and unique acoustics, unforgettable evenings are created - impressive, moving, inspiring.

There is probably no more dignified place to honor Marlene Dietrich than Berlin - the city from which she once set out to become an icon. And to which she returned after her death. In the middle of this historic heart: Berlin Cathedral. On the occasion of her 125th birthday, Ute Lemper dedicates a very personal evening full of music, memories and stories to the artist of the century.

1988 in Paris. The phone rings - and it's Marlene Dietrich on the line. Ute Lemper, 23 years old at the time, can hardly believe it. The Grand Dame had tracked down her young colleague to thank her for a postcard - written after receiving the French Molière Prize for Lemper's celebrated role in Cabaret. The gesture led to a three-hour conversation about life, style, Rilke, Germany - and existence between fame and sadness.

Ute Lemper was at the beginning of her international career at the time. Marlene Dietrich looked back on an eventful life full of films, music, collaborations, love stories and contradictions. Four years later, Dietrich died in Paris. Six days before Lemper's premiere as "Lola" in The Blue Angel - the role that made Marlene a star in 1928. After the funeral in the Madeleine, Marlene returns - to find her final resting place in Berlin.

In Rendezvous with Marlene, Ute Lemper brings this conversation to life. She tells Dietrich's story, sings her legendary chansons - from the Berlin cabaret years to her collaboration with Burt Bacharach - and creates a monument to the icon of great intimacy and international splendor.

An evening in which the past, music and memory come together in a special way.
