With MEITZ/MÜLLER/HERTENSTEN, the Berlin improv scene meets in a top-class line-up. Volker Meitz has been a formative figure in free music for decades - known, among other things, as the founder of the legendary Solo Impro series, which has taken place annually at the Ackerstadt Palast since 2018 and is one of the most important platforms for solo improvisation in Berlin.

Together with Matthias Müller (trombone) and Joe Hertenstein (drums), Meitz moves between the poles of electronic music, jazz and popular genres, with a clear focus on avant-garde and free improvisation. The music is open, energetic and risk-taking and characterized by condensation and collective creation in the moment.

Meitz' sound palette ranges from acoustic piano to effect-laden synthesizers and live electronics. His musical biography combines the improv scene with club culture and experimental pop aesthetics: in the 1990s he played in one of the first drum'n'bass live acts (Analogue Freestyle), later he worked as a producer and remixer for Jazzanova, Dixon, Popol Vuh and Femi Kuti, among others. He can look back on a total of around 80 releases.
