Panel discussion with Irina Scherbakowa (MEMORIAL) and Alice Bota (DIE ZEIT)

The exhibition "The Other Russia" presents the history of MEMORIAL in ten chapters and provides an insight into the organization's threatened and hidden collections.

German scholar and cultural scientist Irina Scherbakowa is a founding member of the human rights organization MEMORIAL, which campaigns for a critical culture of remembrance in Russia and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022. After MEMORIAL was officially dissolved at the end of 2021 following years of state repression, Sherbakova went into exile in Germany, where she and her fellow campaigners continued their work. In conversation with Alice Bota (DIE ZEIT), she will talk about the work of MEMORIAL before and after 2022 and discuss the prevailing images of Russia and Russia policy in Germany.
